	I think Halina Przymusinska's work well merits promotion to
the rank of Associate Professor with tenure.  I am familiar only
with her work on formalization of non-monotonic reasoning through
the papers you sent me and through a lecture she gave when visiting
Stanford.

	The group comprising herself, Michael Gelfond, and Teodor
Przymusinski has been active in relating and extending non-monotonic
logical formalisms as applicable to AI, databases and logic programming.
It seems to me that their work has been more successful than that
of the University of Maryland group comprising Jack Minker and
Donald Perlis, and I suppose this is because they know more logic
and have more facility with it.

	I looked especially at the one paper not involving a collaboration,
and I think it is a substantial contribution by itself.

	Finally,although this isn't something you asked,
I think it is worthwhile to keep the group together if
you can.  The main way for a university with limited resources to make
first class contributions is to specialize by recruiting and keeping
several people who want to work together when other institutions might
not support any one field to that extent.
